On March 5th, 2o2o Lydia's Lounge was packed with
students as they waited for The Locker Room Talk event.

NPHC Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. hosted their Locker Room talk event on March 5th to get members’ perspectives on different social and relational situations.
The Locker Room event was one event in a week full of events for their Ivy Madness week, their spin on March Madness.
The sorority teamed up with the Circle of Brotherhood for their Girl Vs. Guy code edition of the event.
The event was put on by the secretary for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, senior Arlaina Gardner.
“I believe the importance of having a “Locker Room Talk'' is to challenge your beliefs and have an open mind about relational affairs,” said Gardner.
The event consisted of three female panelists and three male panelists answering questions on personal and social affairs.
Each question was proposed for each panelist to answer honestly based on personal opinion as well as personal experience.
“Locker Room Talk is good to have because it is important to make comfortable conversations for others to share their opinions as well as combat stereotypes and double standards,” said Treasurer Tiara Gore.
As highlighted by the New York Times, locker room talk is something that goes on all around the world, throughout several sports, and in all ages.
The stigma around locker room talk is very negative. Usually consisting of very dirty and inappropriate talk.
Despite the general thought of locker room talk usually being associated with men it is the same for women as well.
Getting a male or female by themselves can lead to inappropiate conversations and it is not necessarily to talk bad or to bash the opposite sex, but the conversations come from their point of view.
“These talks are important discussions because it gives us the opportunity to know what the opposite sex is thinking in different situations,” said Dante Jones, a freshman member of the Circle of Brotherhood.
Having these conversations in a public forum like the locker room talk event allows both men and women to get a better understanding of when it comes to how the opposite sex views situations.
“It gave me an outlook on how to handle or approach certain situations with a partner or significant other, and it made me reevaluate what I do in my situations,” said a member of the Circle of Brotherhood Jeremiah Lee.
This new look at different situations allowed members to leave with a new perspective on how to handle similar situations in their affairs.
“It is good to be strong in your ideas and opinions, but it is also important to keep an open-mind,” said Gore.
This was the universal goal that the event had in place for the audience to take away from it.
With the relationship differences between men and women, everyday conversations like this one can continue to allow men and women to get on the right page in handling their personal affairs.
”A lot of us know deep down that we are not doing the dating thing the right way, that isn’t similar to traditional dating or the best moral way, this was an opportunity to see where we are as a generation,” said Charles Myers, a member of the Circle of Brotherhood.
